Brachioplasty (hand lift)
A hand lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the lower arms. During brachioplasty in Yerevan, Armenia, excess skin and fat are removed between the armpit and elbow. The remaining skin is placed on top of the newly modified contours to create a tightened look. As you age, the skin on your shoulders changes — it sags and becomes flabby. Significant weight loss can also cause sagging of the lower arms.
Although workouts can strengthen and improve muscle tone in the upper part, they cannot restore skin that has lost elasticity.
Risks of brachioplasty:
Scarring. Scars are visible when lifting the arms, but are usually located in less visible areas. Rarely, incisions can result in raised, red scars. Injections of corticosteroids or other treatments may help to improve scar appearance.
Asymmetry. This may occur as a result of changes in the healing process. The surgeon will try to achieve maximum symmetry, but perfect symmetry is impossible.
Changes in sensations. During a hand lift (brachioplasty) in Yerevan, Armenia, a change in tissue position can affect the superficial sensory nerves. You will probably feel temporary numbness as a result.
Problems with the seams. The sutures used to secure the new shape can penetrate the surface of the skin and must be removed. This can cause inflammation of the affected area.
As with any other surgical procedure, there is a possibility of bleeding, infection, and an adverse reaction to anesthesia.
Brachioplasty in Yerevan, Armenia, is not suitable for everyone. Specialists may warn against surgery if:
- You are overweight.
- You experience frequent weight fluctuations.
- You have a condition that interferes with wound healing.
- You smoke.
Preparation:
Medical history. It will be necessary to answer questions about current and past health problems. Talk about the medications you are taking or have taken recently, including over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements. Also mention, any surgical procedures that you have had.
To determine treatment options, the doctor will examine the lower part of the shoulders. They will also take the necessary photos for the medical record.
Discuss your expectations. Explain why you want brachioplasty and what you hope for in terms of appearance after the procedure. Make sure you understand the benefits and risks, including scarring.
It is necessary to give up smoking. It reduces blood flow, and can slow down the healing process. If you are a smoker, your doctor will advise you to quit before surgery and during recovery.
Many specialists will refuse to perform surgery if you continue to smoke, as the risk of complications increases.
How is a hand lift (brachioplasty) performed in Yerevan, Armenia:
A plastic surgeon will make incisions on the underside of the arms. The length and pattern of the incisions depend on how much skin is removed.
After making incisions and removing excess skin and fat, the surgeon will connect the edges of the wound and fix them with sutures. Liposuction can also be performed prior to making incisions.
Your skin will be draped over new contours, and excess skin will be removed. Stitches or surgical tape will be used to close the incisions.
After the procedure:
The incisions will be covered with bandages. Your arms will be wrapped with elastic bandages to minimize swelling. Installation of tubular drains is possible. Check-up in a day or two. Bandages and drainage tubing may need to be removed if they are in use. It is recommended to wear compression garments for several weeks to prevent edema.
In the first few days after:
Avoid raising your arms above shoulder height for three to four weeks.
Avoid any physical activity that can stretch the stitches (one to two months).
Take painkillers as needed and take antibiotics to prevent infection.
Consult with your doctor when your stitches are removed. Some types dissolve on their own. The rest are removed after 7 days.
